Let's Travel to Scotland!

Thursday 24th April

Hello again!

Easter holidays were very nice, weren’t they? The weather was fantastic almost (nearly) every day. Yes, it rained, but that was on the last day.

Alejandro was very busy because he spent the holidays studying for his exams. Good luck!
Laura liked holidays so much that she didn’t turn up! (appear). We hope you’re OK and hope to see you in our next class, after the long weekend of 1st May.

We started the class talking about Easter holidays.

I went to the village. I left on Thursday at about 2.00 p.m. so as to avoid getting held in the traffic.(being stopped, to avoid traffic jams). My friend gave me a lift to the village. (My friend took me in her car). I visited my family. I met my friends who live in different parts of Spain, I went out for a drink, I walked and I saw some processions. The weather was nice, sunny and mild (warm). It was overcast (cloudy) on the last day, Sunday. And I think it rained. It didn’t matter (wasn’t important) because it was when I came back to Madrid.
They were fantastic holidays. Now, I’m looking forward to (I really want, I wish) next weekend because it’s going to be a long one. Although I don’t think the weather is going to be as good as it was at Easter! Never mind! I’ll rest!

After that we talked about Scotland.
What do you know about Scotland?

What’s the capital city of Scotland? What’s the most famous drink in Scotland?
What’s a kilt? What are bagpipes? What’s “haggis”? No, it’s not a brand of baby’s nappies! Those are “Huggies”

Then we watched a video and did a quiz about Edinburgh.
You can watch the video again here

And you can learn something about another interesting city in Scotland: Glasgow http://www.esolcourses.com/content/lifeintheuk/glasgow/videoquiz.html

We thought about different cities and answer these questions:

      ·           What’s the city like?
      ·           What are the shops like?
      ·           What’s the public transport like?
      ·           What’s the weather like?
      ·           What are the people like?
      ·           What’s the food like?

Remember that we use “to be like” to give general descriptions of people and/or things.

We made up (invented) the information in class. For homework, look up (search for information) real information on the web about a city of your choice (the one you want) and write a short composition answering the questions above. Write a composition, not only the answers to the questions. You’ll get up to 3 points for homework according to performance. (If your homework is good, you can get a maximum of three points)

   GAME 3                                   This is haggis!
