Sports, Games & Quizzes

Thursday 29th May

Hi everybody!

We finished talking about sports in our previous class.

Sometimes teams play very badly and they need words of reassurance and encouragement (to cheer up, to feel better) from their coach!
“We have something good going, but you’re not a player until you’re the best player. And you’re not a team until you’re the best team. Until you’re the team that wins the title, you never stop trying!”

We did the listening and try to raise the morale of our team imitating the coach stress and intonation.

For homework: can you write a short composition on a sport? Describe a sport, any sport. You must mention where it’s played, number of players, equipment, and some basic rules. Remember to use modal verbs for the rules : have to, must, mustn’t.

We played a board game related to sport.
There were ‘quiz questions’ and also ‘sixty seconds’. And you had to answer the questions or talk for a minute about the sports related statement (affirmative or negative sentences).

·           Which is an extreme sport: bungee jumping, horse riding or aerobics?
·           In tennis, what does ’15-Love’ mean?
·           Which is the top mark a judge can award in ice- skating?
·           Where were the 2000 Olympics held?
·           Talk for sixty seconds about ‘A sport you would like to learn’.
·           Talk for sixty seconds about ‘A dangerous sport ’.
·           Talk for sixty seconds about ‘An extreme sport, e.g. parachuting, you would/wouldn’t like to try’.

We had a competition with a lot of points awarded!
Congratulations to our winners: Jorge and Alejandro!
·         Can you say this tongue twister with the right pronunciation?
·         ‘Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper; a peck of pickled pepper Peter Piper picked’.
·         ‘Lab, gym and disco’ have been clipped at the end; can you say the whole words?
·         What do ‘CD, UFO and RAM’, stand for (meaning of each initial letter)?
·         Do you remember any words which are a combination of two words squashed together? (e.g.brunch= breakfast+lunch). Do you know the meaning of the words?
